Cuomo says no renters in New York can be evicted for not paying until August 20

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Thursday that no one in the state can be evicted for not paying rent due to the coronavirus through August 20. “New York State will extend the moratorium on evictions for those facing COVID-related hardship for an additional 60 days, until August 20,” he tweeted.

  1. no more pandemic,,,, you still extend the ban period? The constitution protects
people equally, you did no do the right thing!

  2. What happens after August when evictions start being processed? Most people are out of work and there’s no way any renter can pay the back rent all at once or even with a payment plan spread out. For example, let’s say your rent is $2,000 a month. (I know $2,000 is a lot in many parts of the US but in Los Angeles or New York it’s a small one bedroom). If you didn’t pay for April, May, June, July because you’re out of work and you can’t find another job. But you manage to work out a payment plan with your landlord to spread out the payments over 12 months. $2,000 x 4 months= $8,000/12=$666.67 a month extra on top of the $2,000 rent or $2,666.67.

That’s a 33% increase in rent. And remember that’s if your landlord renews your lease and gives you a 12 month repayment window. Also landlords will increase your rent by at least 4% in rent controlled buildings every time the lease is renewed. The extra $666.67 is not an increase because it’s what you already owe. So $2,000 x 4% normal rent increase=$80.

$2,000+$80+$666.67= $2,746.67 aka the new rent. That’s an monthly rent increase of 37%. How will any paycheck to paycheck people afford this? The payment plan option ends up jacking up the rent significantly. Landlords are very unlikely to offer more than a 12-24 month repayment window and even with 24 months the new payments are still unaffordable for many which will lead to evictions.

With an eviction the tenant will have trouble finding another apartment, their credit will be affected in some cases, and depending on the local laws the landlord may even be able to get a judgment against the tenant which means they will still owe the landlord money and lose their home. This governor and so many other politicians like him don’t understand this so they’re not even addressing the problem.

  3. Listen to his message. Read between the lines. You're going to be in your homes till at LEAST August. Really though….You're always going to be in lockdown

  4. Nice and for this idea by Andrew Cuomo he should share this to his Regional Partners Charlie Baker Massachusetts Ned Lamont Connecticut Gina raimondo Rhode Island Phil Murphy New Jersey Tom Wolf Pennsylvania and John Carney Delaware

  5. I want to give a big shoutout to governor Andrew Cuomo for a excellent job he’s done givin us updates on NYC and surrounding New York State during this pandemic. Keep up the good work Andrew 👏👏🎉🎉🎊

  6. So, serious question: if you’re a property owner, and your tenants are not paying any rent in this time, do you have any legal obligation to provide them with maintenance or access to apartment amenities? Cuz like if a tenant didn’t pay rent but demanded some $2000 repair or something, that’s a hard pill to swallow.

  7. Yet the line for new air Jordan's was longer than ever..
And the lines in the welfare office have individuals with 300$ shoes, brand new iPhones, gold and diamond jewelry, and brand name clothing.

Here's an idea, sell that stuff and pay your bills.

You are supposed to be a responsible adult, so be responsible for your debts..

Also, plot twist of the year, everybody. You guys have been arguing for left and right. It’s all about up and down.
    Bipartisan? Nope. Bidirectional? Yes.

  9. The Secret Covenant of World Governments…

"We will work together always and will remain bound by blood and secrecy. We will behave as if we are not connected to keep the illusion alive. We will create separate fronts to prevent them from seeing the connection between us.

We will take over their land, resources and wealth to exercise total control over them. They will perform the labor for us and we shall prosper from their toil. For their work they will be rewarded with earthly things and great titles.

We will deceive them into accepting laws that will steal the little freedom they have. We will establish a money system that will imprison them forever, keeping them and their children in debt.

Our goal will be accomplished one drop at a time, so as to never bring suspicion upon ourselves. This will also prevent them from seeing the changes as they occur. We will use our media to control the flow of information.

We will use our knowledge of science and technology in subtle ways so they will never see what is happening.

So grand the illusion of freedom will be, that they will never know they are our Slaves. An illusion so large, so vast it will escape their perception. We will distract them with fornication, external pleasures and games so they may never the truth.

They will live in self-delusion. When our goal is accomplished, a new era of domination will begin.

Those who see it will be thought of as insane. When a light shall shine among them, we shall extinguish it by ridicule or death, whichever suits us best.

They must never, ever find out what we have done, for if they do, we shall have no place to run, for it will be easy to see who we are once the veil has fallen."

  10. No perfect solution for the state that we are in, but it a temporary solution. Why are people so quick to complain? Why not come up with ideas that can help? This is Youtube and not the Governor’s office. “We” love this country but are quick to blame others when it is hurting. “We” can all make a difference. Riots and protests do not always support idea sharing. There is no such thing as a perfect answer to everything. I do not have a answers either but I hope these people can get the help they need and solutions to help out them and other Americans that need help to
